Drug Repackaging and Distribution Center for Investigational Drug Research Programs

The SSC provides a comprehensive program for National Institute of Health sponsored clinical drug trials. We provide technical assistance, inventory management, and logistical support to meet the packaging and distribution requirements of clinical drug trials.

All services are provided in cooperation and sponsorship with National Institutes of Health and other federal government agencies. The Center executes an inter-agency agreement with prospective research programs in order to participate as the Drug Distribution Center.

The SSC follows standard industry and FDA approved methods for receiving, sampling, testing, accepting, and repackaging of all clinical supplies. Retention samples of clinical trial pharmaceuticals are processed and stored for the duration of the study.

The SSC has several years of experience in packaging, labeling, and distributing investigational drugs for clinical trials. The scope of these trials has ranged from relatively small trials to very large investigations involving numerous clinical centers.

The Center has been the Drug Distribution Center for several National Institutes of Health sponsored trials, including the following:

  • Age Related Eye Disease Study (AREDS)

  • Arterial Disease-Multifactorial Intervention Trial (ADMIT)

  • Italian American Clinical Trial on Cataracts (IATC)

  • National Cancer Institute (NCI) - China Esophageal Dysplasia Trial

  • Post Menopausal Estrogen/Progestin Intervention Trial (PEPI)

  • Raynauds Intervention Trial (RTS)

  • Systolic Hypertension in the Elderly Patient (SHEP)

  • Treatment of Lead Exposed Children (TLC)

  • Women's Angiographic Vitamin and Estrogen Trial (WAVE)

  • Magnesium In Coronaries Study (MAGIC)

  • Baby Hug (Pediatric Hydroxyurea Clinical Trial)
